Men’s Soccer Ends Skid With 2-0 Shutout Against Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team halted its three-game losing streak with a 2-0-shutout victory against Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
 
Holy Family improves to 8-4-1 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play, while Chestnut Hill drops to 5-8-1 overall and 3-5-0 in CACC action.  Holy Family currently sits in third place in the conference standings with 19 points.  The Tigers trail only Post University (22) and Wilmington University (20) for the top spot in the CACC. 
 
Senior Marc Fischer (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) scored the eventual game-winning goal midway through the first half when he shot the ball into the back of the net after the ball bounced off the crossbar from a previous shot.  It marked his fourth goal of the season as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.
 
Holy Family would take its 1-0 lead into halftime and eventually doubled the deficit for Chestnut Hill in the 64th minute when freshman Keith Crews (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) tallied his third goal of the season.  Crews took a pass from sophomore Ira Woodruff (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) in front of the net and shot the ball into the lower right corner of the net for the score.  The goal gave Holy Family a 2-0 lead as the Tigers maintained their advantage the rest of the way for the shutout victory.
 
Senior goalkeeper Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J./Paul VI) made six saves in net and recorded his second shutout of the season.  Freshman Dave Sullivan made five saves in net for the Griffins.
 
Holy Family held a slight advantage in shots outshooting Chestnut Hill 14-12.  Both teams recorded four corner kicks in the match.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 22 as the Tigers travel to face first-place Post in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
