Nyack, N.Y. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team came up short in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest by the score of 2-1 at Nyack College Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family, ranked sixth in the recent NCAA Division II NSCAA East Region Poll, is now 7-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play. Nyack improves to 7-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the CACC.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half as both teams recorded five shots a piece in the half. It wasn't until the second half that the game's first goal was scored.
Freshman
Nicolas Delgado (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored his sixth goal of the season in the 61
st minute after receiving a pass from senior
Seydou Ba (Philadelphia, Pa. (Mauritania)/John Bartram). Delgado's goal gave Holy Family a 1-0 advantage with less than 30 minutes to play in regulation.
Later in the half, Nyack tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from sophomore Arturo Garcia as he tallied an unassisted score in the 68
th minute.
Minutes later, the Warriors broke the tie when sophomore Santiago Rivera-Garcia headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick by senior Martin Narvaez to make the score 2-1 in favor of the home team.
Nyack maintained its lead the rest of the way as the Warriors limited Holy Family to four shots in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper
Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J./Paul VI) made five saves in net for Holy Family.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
