Women’s Basketball Wins Fifth Straight; Defeats Dominican 78-60

Philadelphia, Pa. – Senior Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored a game-high 19 points off the bench to lead the Holy Family University women's basketball team to a 78-60 victory over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Campus Center Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family, ranked 15th in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the CACC. In the process, Holy Family increased its NCAA Division II record of consecutive regular season conference victories to 109 and improved its home regular season winning streak to 70.

Tennett scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to lead the Holy Family offense. She finished 6-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) recorded a double-double after scoring 17 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) tallied eight points to go along with six rebounds and six assists.

For Dominican, sophomore Chelsea Aronica finished with a game-high 10 points off the bench after shooting 3-of-6 from the field. Fellow classmate Lindsey Lopez and junior Meghan Murphy each scored nine points for the Chargers.

Holy Family never trailed as the Tigers jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead in the game's first three minutes as graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) drained two three-point baskets on the team's first two possessions to lead the charge.

Holy Family increased its lead to double digits after Carr scored a jumper to make the score 25-14 with 9:13 to play in the first half. The Tigers limited Dominican to only nine points from that point til the end of the half outscoring the Chargers, 21-9, to take a 46-23 halftime lead.

In the second half, Dominican outscored Holy Family 37-32, however the deficit was to much to overcome as the Tigers went on to the 78-60 victory.

Holy Family shot 49.1-percent from the field for the game, including 45.5-percent from beyond the arc (5-11). Holy Family also held a 40-27 advantage on the boards as the Tigers grabbed 15 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds. Dominican shot 41.4-percent from the field for the game.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 11 as the Tigers host cross-town rival Philadelphia University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
