Women’s Basketball Cruises to 87-53 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team led from start to finish as the Tigers went on to defeat Chestnut Hill College, 87-53, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Sorgenti Arena Thursday night.

Holy Family, ranked 15th in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the CACC. In the process, Holy Family increased its NCAA Division II record of regular season conference victories to 108.

Holy Family had four players finish in double-figures as senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) led the way with a game-high 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. With tonight's performance, Carr moves into sixth place on the all-time scoring list in program history with 1,668 career points.

Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tallied 13 points after shooting 5-of-7 from the field, while freshman Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil Academy) (Abington, Pa./St. Basil's) contributed 12 points off the bench. Graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) added 11 points, while junior Lauren Peters (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored nine points and dished six assists.

For Chestnut Hill, sophomores Asha Jones and Lindsey Alexander scored a team high nine points each. Fellow classmate Latoya Laing added eight points.

With the score 19-18 in favor of Holy Family midway through the first half, the Tigers went on a 20-8 run to close out the first half. During that span, the Holy Family defense limited Chestnut Hill to only 3-of-13 shooting from the field. The Tigers entered halftime with a 39-26 lead.

In the second half, Holy Family outscored Chestnut Hill, 48-27, as the Tigers shot 53.8-percent from the field and 50.0-percent from beyond the arc on the way to the 87-53 victory. Holy Family limited the Griffins to 27.8-percent shooting from the field in the second half and 31.8-percent for the game.

Holy Family also held the advantage in rebounding as the Tigers recorded 47 boards compared to 31 by Chestnut Hill.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 8 as the Tigers host Dominican College in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
