Carr Scores 29 as Women’s Basketball Defeats Caldwell College, 68-55

Caldwell, N.J. – Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) scored a season-high 29 points as the Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated Caldwell College, 68-55, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the George R. Newman Center Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family, ranked 21st in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll and second in the NCAA Division II East Region Poll, improves to 12-3 overall and 9-1 in the CACC. Caldwell, ranked tenth in the East Region, is now 12-4 overall and 8-2 in the CACC.

With her 29-point performance, Carr moved into fourth place on the all-time scoring list surpassing Kristina Weise who scored 1,734 career points from 1999-2003. Carr now has 1,748 career points. She finished the game shooting 13-of-19 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tallied nine points, while graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) and junior Lauren Peters (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) each scored seven points against the Cougars.

For Caldwell, sophomore Torey Jones scored a team-high 22 points, while senior Abena George contributed 11 points and collected five steals. Freshman Jeanette Anderson added eight points off the bench for the Cougars.

Holy Family used a 17-5 run to start the game as the Tigers compiled a double-digit lead the first seven-plus minutes in the first half by the score of 17-5. Holy Family swelled its lead to as many as 19 in the half after Peters converted a pair of free throws to make the score 34-15 with just over five minutes to play before halftime.

Holy Family entered halftime with a 39-27 advantage after shooting 42.4-percent from the field and limiting Caldwell to only 34.8-percent shooting in the half.

In the second half, Caldwell cut the Holy Family lead to single digits after Jones drained a three-pointer to start the half to make the score 39-30. However, the Tigers followed with a 13-2 run to increase their lead to 52-32 after Mann scored a layup at the 15:36 mark.

Holy Family would go on to the victory as Caldwell came no closer than 13 points of the Tigers lead the rest of the way. Each player that saw action for Holy Family scored in the victory over the Cougars.

Holy Family is back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1 when the Tigers face cross-town rival Philadelphia University on the road in a CACC contest.
