Women’s Basketball Cruises to 87-51 Victory Over Wilmington in CACC Opener

Philadelphia, Pa. – Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Holy Family University women's basketball team to an 87-51 victory against Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Campus Center Wednesday night.

Holy Family, ranked eighth in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 4-1 overall and starts conference play at 1-0. In the process, Holy Family increased its NCAA Division II record of consecutive regular season conference victories to 104 and bettered its home regular season winning streak to 68. Wilmington falls to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.

Mann scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half shooting 6-of-9 from the field and also grabbed eight boards. She finished with a double-double with a team-high ten rebounds and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) added 13 points after shooting 4-of-8 from the field and also collected eight rebounds.

Senior Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) came off the bench and added 12 points as she shot 6-of-8 from the field. Graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) also scored in double figures with 10 points, while dishing out five assists. Freshman Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil Academy) (Abington, Pa./St. Basil's Academy) contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench for the Tigers.

For Wilmington, freshman Silvia Jankova led the team with 11 points, while grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists. Senior Ashley Davison finished with nine points, while freshmen Lauren Brown and Courtney Coleman added eight points each.

Holy Family began the game on an 8-2 run and never trailed as the Tigers led by as much as 25 points late in the first half after a pair of free throws by Mann at the 3:07 mark to make it 42-17. Holy Family entered the locker room with a 45-24 advantage at half time.

Holy Family started the second half with an 18-6 run and increased its lead to 63-30 after Tennett scored on a lay up at the 13:07 mark of the second half. The lead swelled to as much as 38 when McCollum drained a three-pointer with 8:07 remaining in regulation.

The Tigers shot 43.8-percent from the field throughout the game and held the Wildcats to 33.3-percent shooting in the second half on their way to victory. Holy Family also held the advantage on the glass with 55 rebounds as opposed to Wilmington's 24.

Holy Family is back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a non-conference road game against West Chester University.
