Bloomfield, N.J. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team fell to Bloomfield College, 7-3, in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Holy Family, seeded eighth in the tournament, concludes the season at 7-9-3 overall, while Bloomfield, the top-seeded team in the tournament, improves to 14-3-1 overall.
Bloomfield jumped out to an early first half lead when junior Terry Gibbs scored his first of two goals on the day in the tenth minute of action to give the Deacons a 1-0 advantage.
Minutes later, Holy Family tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore
Dodji Freitas (Togo/Samuel S. Fels) scored off a rebound in the 15th minute. The goal marked his first tally of the season.
With the game tied 1-1, Bloomfield regained the lead in the 32nd minute when senior Triston Sommerville scored his third goal of the season. However, the lead didn't last long as Holy Family tied the game at 2-2 when freshman
Ira Woodruff (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) scored his second goal of the season in the 37th minute.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Holy Family gained its first lead when Freitas scored his second goal of the game to give the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. The lead would be short lived as Bloomfield responded quickly with a goal by junior Edgar Aguilar tying the score, 3-3, in the 44th minute.
In the second half Bloomfield scored four unanswered goals, including Gibbs' second goal of the game to open the scoring in the 54th minute. The Deacons regained the lead and didn't look back on its way to the 7-3 victory.
Junior
Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J./Paul VI) made ten saves in net for Holy Family, while facing a total of 27 shots.
