#5 Holy Family Wins Shootout Over #24 Bentley, 92-84

Philadelphia, Pa. – Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the way with a game-high 25 points as the fifth ranked Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated #24 Bentley University, 92-84, in a non-conference contest at the Campus Center Monday evening.

Holy Family begins the year at 1-0 and in the process extends its regular season home winning streak to 66 games. Bentley begins its season at 0-1 overall.

Mann was among five Holy Family players that scored in double figures as she finished 9-of-20 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Mann also added 11 boards to record a double-double.

Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) posted a double-double as well with 19 points and ten assists. She also added six defensive rebounds and had two steals. Fellow classmates Meghan Gibson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) also scored in double-figures. Gibson had 16 points after shooting 5-of-10 from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and Tennett contributed 14 points and six boards off the bench. Graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) finished with 11 points.

Junior Katherine Goodwin who finished with a team-high 15 points led Bentley in scoring. Senior Elise Caira scored 14 points after shooting 7-of-11 from the field. She also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Sophomore Courtney Finn finished a perfect night of shooting with nine points. She was 3-of-3 from the field, 2-of-2 from three and 1-of-1 from the free throw line.

The game featured 12 different lead changes and the score was tied 11 times during the course of the evening as both teams combined for 176 points.

Bentley led by as much as nine points after Goodwin hit a jumper at the 7:20 mark of the first half to give the Falcons a 35-28 lead.

Holy Family responded with an 8-0 run capped by a layup from Tennett who scored on a fast break after stealing the ball from Bentley senior Kim Brennan. The layup gave the Tigers a 36-35 lead with 4:50 to play in the half.

Holy Family closed the first half with a 48-47 advantage, however the lead didn't last long as Bentley came out firing to open the second half. Goodwin drained a three-point basket on Bentley's first possession of the second half to regain the lead at 50-48.

With the game tied at 50-50, Bentley went on a mini 6-0 run after a three-pointer from Brennan to give the Falcons their biggest lead since the first half at 56-50.

Later in the half, Holy Family regained the lead briefly after a pair of free throws from Mann with 11:22 remaining in regulation as the Tigers led 68-66.

Bentley tied the game for the final time after Caira connected on a jumper to tie the game at 71-71 with less than nine minutes to play.

Holy Family then went on an 11-1 run capped by a layup basket from Mann as the Tigers increased their lead to double digits at 82-72 with 4:18 remaining.

Holy Family would hold on to the lead as its defense limited Bentley to only 12 points in the final six minutes of the game.

Holy Family shot 44-percent from the field (32-72) and 53-percent from three (8-15), while going 20-of-27 from the free throw line. Bentley finished the game shooting nearly 50-percent from the field (32-65) and shot 39-percent from three (9-23), while converting 11-of-13 from the free throw line.

Holy Family is back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 when the Tigers host Kutztown University in a non-conference contest.
