Philadelphia, Pa. –The Holy Family University men's soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday afternoon.
With the win Holy Family is now 7-6-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom falls to 3-11-0 overall and 2-7-0 in the CACC.
After both teams battled to a scoreless first half, Holy Family scored the game's first goal in the 62nd minute when junior
Timothy Weglicki (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Jeff Wimsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge).
Less than ten minutes later Holy Family struck again, this time it was junior
Marc Fischer (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) who found the back of the net for his third score of the season.
The Tigers led 2-0 with less than nine minutes to play in regulation when Goldey-Beacom cut the lead in half when sophomore Matt Bik assisted fellow classmate Mariano Olcese with his second goal of the season.
Holy Family's defense held Goldey-Beacom at bay the rest of the second half and secured the 2-1 victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J./Paul VI) made three saves in net for the Tigers, while sophomore Ignacio Farias made six stops for the Lightning.
Holy Family is back in action at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 on the road against Felician College in a CACC contest.
