Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior
Marc Fischer (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) came up with the game-winning goal in overtime as the Holy Family men's soccer team defeated Post University, 2-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family improves to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the CACC, while Post is now 5-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the CACC.
Holy Family jumped out to a quick lead as senior
Rich Morawski (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast Catholic) scored the games first goal in the fourth minute of action. Morawski's third goal of the season gave the Tigers the early 1-0 lead.
The game remained tied the rest of the first half as both teams battled defensively. In the second half Post tied the game when sophomore Eltany Morias scored his fifth goal of the season off a header from senior Frantzy Noze in the 57th minute.
With the game still tied at 1-1 and seconds remaining in the second half, Holy Family nearly came away with a last second goal. However, the shot on goal was still in mid-flight as the horn sounded to signal the end of regulation before the ball went through the net.
It was in overtime that Fischer connected on his second goal of the season as junior
Colin Whalen (Wyndmoor, Pa.) assisted on the play. Fischer's goal came in the 97th minute to give Holy Family a 2-1 victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J.) recorded nine saves in net for the Tigers, while sophomore Errol Reid made four stops for the Eagles.
Holy Family will look to extend its three game winning streak when they host Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday, Oct. 16 in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
