Men’s Soccer Picks Up Key 4-2 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - Sophomore Jeffrey Wimsey's (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) second half goal in the 62nd minute proved to be the game-winner as the Holy Family University men's soccer team picked up a key, 4-2, victory over Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Thursday evening.

With the win, Holy Family improves to 5-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill is now 8-5-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the CACC.

Freshman Ira Woodruff (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) put Holy Family on the board first with an early goal in the sixth minute of action. Woodruff scored his first goal of the season off a rebound shot by senior Richard Morawski (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast Catholic) to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short lived as Chestnut Hill responded with back-to-back goals in the ninth and tenth minute of play. Junior Gavin Reid tied the game at 1-1 and less than a minute later sophomore Darryl Richardson gave the Griffins a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers bounced back and eventually tied the game at 2-2 when Morawski scored his second goal of the season as he connected from 25 yards out in the 28th minute.

The game would remain tied through halftime and leading up to Wimsey's third goal of the season in the 62nd minute of action. Wimsey gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead as he scored off a lobbed pass from freshman Thomas Stackhouse (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South).

Holy Family would tack on an insurance goal later in the second half when junior Colin Whalen (Wyndmoor, Pa./La Salle) scored his second goal in as many games to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead in the 79th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Mark Ferretti (Voorhees, N.J./Paul VI) recorded seven saves in net for the Tigers, while his counterpart, sophomore Mike Goldstein, made eight stops. Holy Family held the advantage in total shots, 20-13.

Holy Family will host Post University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 in a CACC match up.
