Holy Family Makes Difficult Decision to Discontinue Women’s Tennis Program

7/23/2020 12:00:00 AM

Philadelphia, Pa. – Holy Family University's Director of Athletics, Tim Hamill, announced today that women's tennis will be discontinued as an intercollegiate athletics program effective immediately.

"This was an extremely difficult decision that was reached after a considerable amount of discussion based on factors including the ability to recruit and provide student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level throughout the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and NCAA Division II," said Hamill.  "We didn't take this lightly, as we know how it will impact our tennis players and their supporters. It was challenging, and the department will do everything possible to provide our student-athletes who are impacted with the support they need."

Student-Athletes on the current Holy Family women's tennis roster will be afforded the opportunity to remain at Holy Family if they choose. However, should they choose to transfer, Holy Family will assist them in their pursuit of academic and athletic opportunities elsewhere.

The women's tennis program first debuted in 2004-05.  Within three seasons the Tigers won their first of two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Titles (2007 & 2008).  Holy Family reached the conference championship match again in 2009.  The Tigers went to the NCAA Division II Tournament four times in the programs short history (2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011).
