Remington Fans 13 as Tigers End Skid

Bensalem, Pa. - Freshman Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) recorded a season-high 13 strikeouts to lead the Holy Family University softball team to a 4-0 victory over Concordia College in game two of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Bensalem High School.  The Clippers won game one, 8-7, before the Tigers picked up the 4-0 victory in game two to end their season-long 19-game losing streak.

Game 1: Concordia 8, Holy Family 7
Game 2: Holy Family 4, Concordia 0
Records: Holy Family (3-33, 3-15 CACC) | Concordia (10-16, 6-12 CACC)
Location: Bensalem, Pa. (Bensalem High School)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* After three scoreless innings between the two teams, Holy Family was the first to strike.  In the bottom of the fourth freshman Madelyn Yeager (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) connected on her third home run of the season to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

* Senior Hannah Miravich (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) held the Clippers in check through the first five innings, including retiring the first nine batters of the game.  However, Concordia finally got to Miravich in the sixth as the Clippers scored four runs with Tori Tansley highlighting the inning with a two-run double.

* Concordia doubled its run total in the seventh thanks to a grand slam by Ashdon Clark that made the score 8-2.

* Holy Family didn't go away quietly as the Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh after taking advantage of a pair of errors by the Clippers.  Junior Julia Vizza (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) and sophomore Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) each drove in a pair of runs in the inning.  After Nichols delivered a two-run double with two outs, freshman Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) ripped a shot back up the middle that hit off the Concordia pitcher but fielded cleanly by second baseman Ellen Little resulting in a bang-bang play at first for the final out.

* Holy Family had six players record multiple hits in the game, including Yeager who finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.  Vizza was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while junior Tyler Beccari (Havertown, Pa./Haverford (Temple)) finished 3-for-4.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* All four runs in the game came via the long ball as Remington took care of the rest.  Senior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the first inning when she launched her fourth home run of the season.

* Holy Family added another run in the fifth off the bat of Hansen as she delivered her fourth home run of the season to make the score 4-0.

* With the lead in hand, Remington stifled the Concordia offense as she allowed just one hit, a double by Jordan Bordonaro in the third inning, in seven innings of work.  She struck out a season-high 13 batters on the way to her first career shutout.

News and Notes

*  Klem's home run in game two marked the 16th of her career as she moved into sole possession of fifth place on the program's all-time home run list.  Her next home run will tie her with former standout Angela DiBeneditto (2008-2011) for fourth place.

* Remington's 13 strikeouts are the most in a game by a Holy Family pitcher since the 2010 season.  During that campaign the Tigers had 19 games of double-digit strikeouts including 18 by former all-star Jody Searfoss against ironically enough Concordia. The 13 K's by Remington marked the fifth most in a single game in the program's Division II era.

All-Time Series
Today's doubleheader marked the 19th and 20th meeting between Holy Family and Concordia since the start of the 2010 season.  The Tigers are now 17-3 versus the Clippers in the all-time series.

Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday as the Tigers travel to face Pace University a non-conference doubleheader.  Game one is set for 12 p.m.
