Warriors Tame Tigers in CACC Doubleheader




Bensalem, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader to Nyack College by the scores of 12-0 and 11-4 on Saturday afternoon at Bensalem High School.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Already leading 4-0, Nyack broke the game open in the top half of the fourth inning with six runs on six hits to increase its lead to 10-0.  Janelle Adams highlighted the inning with a two-run double.  She finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI.
 
* Nyack's Alyssa Giampolo (8-5) earned the victory as she scattered two hits in a complete five-inning effort.  She struck out four batters and issued just one walk.
 
* Senior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) and sophomore Heather Bogardus (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) each went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Tigers.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* In the late game the Warriors once again jumped out in front first with three runs in the third inning followed by five more runs in the fourth to lead 8-0. 
 
* Holy Family ended its scoring drought in the bottom of the fourth when Klem connected on her third home run of the season.  Klem's two-run shot made the score 8-2.
 
* The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) drove in Bogardus with a single to left field to make the score 8-3.
 
* Nyack added some insurance in the sixth when Morgan Hans drove in a pair of runs with a base hit.  Hans would go on to score on the play after taking advantage of a Holy Family error.  Hans finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
 
* Holy Family scored a run in its half of the sixth to extend the game.  Senior Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) delivered a double to left-center to score freshman Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional)
 
* Nyack's Stephanie White (1-10) retired the Tigers in order in the seventh inning to pick up her first win of the season. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 35th and 36th meetings between Holy Family and Nyack since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 30-6 versus the Warriors in the all-time series.  Nyack snapped Holy Family's 14-game winning streak in the series and recorded its first sweep in the series since 2007.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Monday, April 1 as the Tigers travel to face Dominican College in a CACC doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.  The doubleheader versus the Chargers was originally scheduled for Sunday but due to incoming rain has been pushed back a day.
