Game 2: Chowan 13, Holy Family 6
Records: Holy Family (2-16) | Chowan (8-19)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* After both teams exchanged runs in the second inning, Chowan broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning as the Hawks grabbed a 7-1 lead.  Jesse Gentry sparked the inning with a two-run home run.  The Hawks would go on to add another run in the sixth and five runs in the seventh.

* Holy Family scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh but the deficit was too much to overcome.  Senior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) connected on her first home run of the season with a three-run shot in the inning. Klem finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

* Senior Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) also had a multiple hit game as she finished 2-for-4 with two doubles.

* Gentry went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and two walks for Chowan.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* Chowan jumped out early in game two as back-to-back doubles by Haley Cooper and Beth Walker led to the game's first run.  A double by Brittany Parson later in the inning gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Holy Family got a run back in the bottom of the first when sophomore Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) drove in junior Julia Vizza (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) who led the inning off with a double.

* In the second Chowan tallied three more runs with Walker coming through with a two-run single.  With the score 5-1, Holy Family got right back into it when Vizza connected on her third home run of the season; a two-run shot over the center field fence to make the score 5-3.

* The Hawks responded right away in the third inning when Miranda Glover led the inning off with a solo home run.  It jump-started a three-run inning for Chowan that increased its lead to 8-3.  Holy Family added a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a solo home run by Klem; her second of the day.

* Holding an 8-4 lead entering the sixth inning, the Hawks added a pair of runs and went on to score another three runs in the seventh to take a 13-4 lead.  Holy Family put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh but once again the deficit was too much to overcome.  Nichols recorded her fourth home run of the season to account for the Tigers' first run in the inning.  Freshman Megan Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) drove in Klem who doubled after Nichols' solo home run.

* Vizza and Klem each went 3-for-4 in the game for the Tigers.  Sophomore Michelle Slaughter (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) and Nichols each had a pair of hits.

* EmaRae Flores went 4-for-5 at the plate with one run and two RBI for the Hawks.  She also picked up her fifth win of the season in the pitching circle as she went the distance.
