Tigers Swept by Raiders in Non-Conference Action

Shippensburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader at Shippensburg University by the scores of 8-0 and 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Robb Field.

Game 1: Shippensburg 8, Holy Family 0 (6)
Game 2: Shippensburg 8, Holy Family 1
Records: Holy Family (0-12) | Shippensburg (11-7)
Location: Shippensburg, Pa. (Robb Field)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* Shippensburg scored a pair of runs in the opening inning and provided starting pitcher Tressa Kagarise (6-1) enough runs to pick up her sixth victory of the season.  Grace Palmieri provided a two-run single in the inning to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.

* Kagarise stifled the Holy Family offense, as she struck out six batters in a complete six-inning game.  She carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but junior Julia Vizza (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) had other ideas as she drove a double to left field to account for the Tigers' lone hit.

* Courtney Coy led the Raiders with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate to go along with two RBI.  Kendall Geis went 2-for-3, including a solo home run in the third inning.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* Shippensburg bounced on top of the Tigers in game two with three runs in the first inning.  Coy capped the three-run first with a two-run home run. She went on to finish the game 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. The Raiders added another three runs in the second inning before tacking on a run in the third to lead, 7-0.

* Holy Family got on the board in the top half of the fifth inning.  Freshman Madelyn Yeager (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the inning off with a single to left-center; her first collegiate hit.  Yeager would later score on a wild pitch to account for the Tigers' lone run.

* Shippensburg's Taryn Wilson (5-4) went the distance as she recorded her fifth win of the season.  In seven innings of work she allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine batters.

* Freshman Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers.  Senior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) went 2-for-3 as she is now one hit away from 100 for her career.

All-Time Series
Today's marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and Shippensburg in the Tigers' Division II era, which began 2004.
