Tigers Fall to Ferris State & Hillsdale at PFX Spring Games



Clermont, Fla. - The Holy Family University softball came up short against a pair of non-conference opponents as the Tigers continued their Florida Trip at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont.  The Tigers fell to Ferris State, 9-0 in five innings, and to Hillsdale College, 6-1.

How It Happened (vs. Ferris State)
 
* Kodi Ramirez came through with a big three-run home run for the Bulldogs in the top half of the second inning.  Already leading 1-0, Ferris State added three runs in the second thanks to Ramirez's homer.  She finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
 
* The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the fourth inning when they plated five runs.  Jessica Tucci capped the inning with a two-run single.
 
* Freshman Megan Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and senior Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) each finished 1-for-2 in the game for the Tigers accounting for the team's two hits. 
 
How It Happened (vs. Hillsdale)
 
* Hillsdale jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.  Sam Catron had a two-run single in the first, while back-to-back singles by Amanda Marra and Emma Johnson led to Charger runs.
 
* The Chargers added another two runs in the fourth inning to grab a 6-0 advantage.  Johnson once again came through with a run scoring single as she finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. 
 
* Holy Family finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when senior Julia Vizza (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) came through with a two-out single to score Nolan.
 
* Freshman Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) entered the game in relief in the top half of the fourth inning and only allowed one base runner in four innings of work.
 
News and Notes
 
* Nolan along with fellow senior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) will enter the team's final day at the PFX Spring games three hits shy of 100 career hits.  Both players currently have 97 career hits.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the third-ever meeting between Holy Family and Ferris State.  The Tigers are now 1-2 in the short history with the Bulldogs.  Holy Family and Hillsdale were meeting for the first time.
 
Next Up
Holy Family wraps up its Florida trip Friday morning as the Tigers face the University of Sioux Falls (9:30 a.m.) and Lock Haven University (11:45 a.m.).  Both games will be played at the Minneola Complex Field #1.
