Tigers Wrap Up PFX Spring Games



Clermont, Fla. - The Holy Family University softball team wrapped up the PFX Spring Games on Friday morning as the Tigers faced the University of Sioux Falls and Lock Haven University in non-conference action.  The Tigers fell to Sioux Falls, 12-3, and then suffered a 6-1 defeat to Lock Haven.

How It Happened (vs. Sioux Falls)
 
* Sioux Falls scored five runs in the opening inning and never looked back as the Cougars led throughout the game.  Ashley Meyer capped the scoring with a two-run homer as she finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI.
 
* A solo home run in the second inning by Emily Hove gave Sioux Falls a 6-0 lead before the Cougars erupted for six runs in the third. 
 
* Holy Family avoided the shutout by scoring three runs in the top half of the fifth inning.  Freshman Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) led the inning off with her first collegiate home run.  Later in the inning sophomore Heather Bogardus (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) scored a pair of runs with a double to left field.
 
How It Happened (vs. Lock Haven)
 
* In the Tigers' final game at the PFX Spring Games, Lock Haven struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning.  Becca Caputo and Rachel Gricoski each had run scoring doubles in the inning.
 
* Lock Haven added two more runs in the fourth inning to double its lead.  Bryann Hilty drove in a run with a single and the Bald Eagles took advantage of a Holy Family error to score their other run. LHU went on to score solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
* Holy Family got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when junior Julia Vizza (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) connected on her first collegiate home run.  She led the inning off with a shot over the left field fence.
 
News and Notes
 
* Freshman Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) recorded her first collegiate hit against Sioux Falls.  Fellow freshman Jasmine Martinez (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Polytechnic) also collected her first collegiate hit as she doubled against Lock Haven.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and Sioux Falls.  The Tigers and Bald Eagles were meeting up for the first time since the 2004 season.  Lock Haven is 3-0 versus Holy Family in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, March 17 as the Tigers travel to face Shippensburg University in a non-conference doubleheader.  Game one is set for 1 p.m.
