Tigers Continue to Roll; Defeat Golden Falcons in Five



Lyndhurst, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven and ended Felician University's win streak at 10 matches after coming away with a 3-2 victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* In a match that could have gone either way, Holy Family came upTh on the winning end with a dramatic 15-13 victory in the fifth and final set.  The Tigers led majority of the set, including a 5-1 lead to open the set.  The Golden Falcons eventually tied the set at 12-12 after back-to-back kills by Kali Vodrazka.  A kill by senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) gave the Tigers the lead right back, but Felician tied things up on the next rally with a kill from Maddie Sloan.  With the set tied 13-13, junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) gave the Tigers their final lead with a kill and on the ensuing serve, sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) clinched the victory with an ace.
 
* Holy Family trailed in the match 2-1 and went on to win the fourth set, 25-23, to force a fifth and final set.  The Tigers scored the final three points in the fourth set to tie the match. Freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) tied and won the set with their respective kills.
 
* The Tigers also won an important second set that featured a number of scoring runs.  The set had four different lead changes as well as 12 ties before the Tigers came away with a 32-30 victory.  A kill by Johnson followed by a service ace by freshman Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) broke a 30-30 tie.  Boylan went on finish the match with five aces.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family has a new all-time block assists leader as Pesognelli finished the match with five block assists to reach 196 in her career.  She passes former standout Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) (2010-13) who amassed 194 block assists in her career.
 
* Pesognelli was also one of three players to record double-digit kills in the match for the Tigers.  She finished with 14, while Covington added 17 kills and 21 digs.
 
* Hartney set a new career-high as she totaled a match-high 21 kills to go along with three block assists and six digs.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) totaled 54 assists; one shy of her season-high.  Silks also recorded 20 digs on defense.
 
* Holy Family has won a season-high seven straight matches.
 
* Vodrazka led the Golden Falcons with 19 kills.  Miquela Martinez assisted on 62 of the team's 70 kills. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 19th meeting between Holy Family and Felician since the start of the 2004 season.  The Tigers are now 18-1 versus the Golden Falcons in the all-time series and have won the last 16 matches.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 30 as the Tigers host city rival Jefferson in a CACC contest. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m. from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
