Tigers Extend Win Streak to Six; Complete Season Sweep Over Lightning



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team made it six wins in a row after completing the season sweep over Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Thursday evening in front of a packed Campus Center Gymnasium as a number of Holy Family faculty and staff were on hand in celebration of Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.

Match Recap
 
* The Holy Family offense recorded a season-high .305 attack percentage as the Tigers recorded 39 kills throughout the match while committing only 10 errors on 95 attempts. 
 
* The Tigers came out firing in the opening set with four of the team's first five points were courtesy of the kill.  Holy Family recorded a match-high 15 kills in the first set, including five by junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar).  The Tigers Holy Family led by as many as nine points after a Lightning attack error made the score 19-10.
 
* In the second set the Lightning led 5-3, however the Tigers used a 9-1 run to take control of the set at 12-6.  After two points by Goldey-Beacom, the Tigers rolled off five unanswered points to increase the lead to 17-8.  The Lightning rallied later in the set to cut the lead down to 19-16 but that would be as close as they would get of the lead.
 
* Holy Family trailed early on in the third set but used another late run to take control.  With the set tied 11-11, the Tigers scored four straight points bookended by kills from sophomore Zoe Krause (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) to make the score 15-11.  The Tigers never relinquished the lead and went on to win the set, 25-16.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) officially moved into sole possession of second place in the program's all-time block assists list.  Pesognelli had one block assist in the victory and now has 191 in her career.  She passed Rebecca Tett in the record book who recorded 190 block assists from 2008-11.  Pesognelli is now three bock assists away from tying Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) (2010-2013) for most in program history at 194.  Pesognelli finished the match with six kills.
 
* Covington and freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each recorded double-digit kills.  Covington finished with a match-high 11 kills to go along with nine digs, while Hartney totaled 10 kills.
 
* Krause recorded a career-high six kills as she also set a career-high with a .417 attack percentage after committing only one error on 12 attempts.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with 12 digs.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished with a match-high 34 assists while collecting eight digs on defense.
 
* Shayla Boyce led the Lightning with eight kills, while Neyshlian Roman Concepcion recorded a match-high 19 digs.
 
All-Time Series
This evening marked the 34th meeting between Holy Family and Goldey-Beacom since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 26-8 versus the Lightning having won 26 straight matches in the series after dropping the first eight.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 as the Tigers hit the road to face Felician University in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
