Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) had a career day draining seven three-pointers and scoring 29 points as the Holy Family University men's basketball team defeated Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 83-70 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gym.
Holy Family improves to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Goldey-Beacom is now 5-11 overall and 2-6 in the CACC.
Munoz gave the Tigers all the offense they would need as he scored a career-high 29 points after shooting an impressive 10-of-17 from the field, including a career-best 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Munoz finished the first half shooting 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from deep range.
Junior
Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) also scored in double-figures as he finished with 13 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Senior
Angel Ayala (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) came off the bench and filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven assists and ten rebounds.
Also for the Tigers, sophomore
Richard Council (New York, N.Y./Rice) contributed eight points and nine rebounds, while freshman
Hunter Wysocki (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) added seven points off the bench.
For Goldey-Beacom, sophomore Charles Jackson finished with a team-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds and a game-high seven steals. Junior A.J. Picard also scored in double-figures with 15 points, while sophomore Marcus Porter supplied the Lightning with 17 points off the bench. Junior Jordan Thorpe missed out on a double-double by two points as he recorded a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Holy Family led the entire game as Munoz set the tone for the Tigers early on draining a three-pointer to open the scoring. The Tigers knocked down five three-pointers in the first half, including four by Munoz.
Holy Family would grab its first double-digit lead of the game late in the half after a layup basket by Wysocki made the score 25-14. The Tigers would lead by as many as 14 points, holding a 33-19 lead at the half.
In the second half, Holy Family maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way as the Tigers swelled their lead to as many as 24 points after an Ezell three-pointer made the score 71-47 with 4:19 to play in regulation.
As a team Holy Family shot 45.5-percent from beyond the arc (10-22) and 50.0-percent from the field (30-60) for game. Goldey-Beacom connected on only 6-of-20 from three and shot 38.8-percent from the field.
Holy Family also took advantage of its free throw attempts as the Tigers connected on 13-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Goldey-Beacom held the advantage on the boards as the Lightning outrebounded the Tigers, 44-35, including 20-7 on the offensive glass.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 15 as the Tigers host the University of the Sciences in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 8 p.m
