Easton, Mass. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest on the final day of the East Coast Classic falling to host Stonehill College by the score of 72-48 Sunday afternoon at the Merkert Gymnasium.
Holy Family is now 6-7 overall, while Stonehill improves to 6-4 overall.
Juniors
Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) and
Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) each scored in double-figures to lead the Holy Family offense. Ezell finished with a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Munoz tallied 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Freshman Tuhran Griffin finished with nine points, while fellow classmate
Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) chipped in six points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Tigers.
For Stonehill, senior Adam Fazzini knocked down four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 15 points. He also recorded seven rebounds. Sophomore Jack Cole recorded a double-double after recording 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Cole also tallied three steals and blocked two shots on the defensive end. Senior Raheem May-Thompson came off the bench and contributed 14 points for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill led by as many as 14 points (33-19) with less than a minute to play in the first half and eventually took a 33-24 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime. Holy Family scored the final five points in the first half to cut the Skyhawks' lead to single digits.
Holy Family would cut the lead to four points after Griffin knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 33-29 early in the second half (18:47). However, Stonehill would swell its lead back to double-digits and used a 28-6 run midway through the half to increase its lead to as many as 28 points (69-41) with 4:15 to play.
Stonehill shot 52.2-percent from the field in the second half, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc to surge past the Tigers. The Skyhawks finished the game with 11 three-pointers (11-23).
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 as the Tigers travel to face Caldwell College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
