BOX SCORE

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a 74-61 decision to visiting Shaw University in a non-conference contest Tuesday night at the Campus Center Gym.

Holy Family is now 2-3 overall, while Shaw improves to 2-1 overall after the victory.

Junior Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) led Holy Family with a team-high 27 points after shooting 8-of-19 from the field.  Ezell converted 7-of-10 from the free throw line and led the Tigers with six assists and six blocked shots.  Junior Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) added 17 points, as he knocked down five three-pointers.  Munoz also recorded five rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Freshman Hunter Wysocki (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) added eight points and four boards off the bench for the Tigers, while sophomore Richard Council (New York, N.Y./Rice) contributed six points and a new career-high with 13 rebounds.

For Shaw, senior Karron Johnson led all scorers with 32 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.  Johnson shot 12-of-17 from the field and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line.  Junior Curtis Hines came off the bench and contributed 16 points after shooting 7-of-10 from field.

Holy Family scored the game's first four points, however Shaw used a 19-5 run to take a 19-9 lead after a jumper by Johnson at the 10:54 mark.

Shaw extended its lead to as many as 19 to close out the first half with a 41-22 lead.

In the second half, the Bears extended their lead to 23 points after scoring the first four points of the half to lead 45-23.

However, Holy Family responded and nearly erased the 23-point deficit (45-22).  The Tigers used 20-4 run over a span six-plus minutes to make the score 49-42 with 11:11 to play in the half.  Four three-pointers fueled the Tigers run, including three by Ezell.  The junior transfer from Shaw scored 13 of the Tiger's 20 points during the rally.

Despite the surge, that would be as close as the Tigers would get of the Bears' lead as Shaw increased the lead back up to 18 points after a layup basket by junior Andre Paulk to make the score 63-45.  Paulk's basket at the 5:35 mark capped a 14-3 run by the Bears.

Holy Family finished the game with nine three-pointers, including seven in the second half.  The Tigers shot 10-of-17 from the free throw line and forced 18 turnovers on the defensive end.

Shaw controlled the boards as the Bears outrebounded the Tigers, 45-29.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 27 as the Tigers travel to face Kutztown University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
