Men’s Basketball Falls to Caldwell College, 81-64

Caldwell, N.J. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to Caldwell College, 81-64, at the George R. Newman Center Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family is now 4-15 overall and 2-7 in the CACC, while Caldwell improves to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Freshman Rashaad Sneed (Durham, N.C./Hillside Heat Academy) (Durham, N.C./Hillsdale Heat Academy) led Holy Family in scoring as he scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds. Junior Tim Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) contributed ten points as well as freshman Levente Csorvasi (Kecskemet, Hungary /Afeosz) (Kecskemet, Hungary/Afeosz) and sophomore Khiry Hankins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day School) (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day School) . Both Csorvasi and Hankins tallied ten points off the bench for the Tigers.

For Caldwell, junior Nik Otovic finished with a game-high 18 points after shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Fellow classmate Derrick Ross contributed 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, while senior Antonio Brimley recorded 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Robert McPherson scored 11 points off the bench after shooting 5-of-7 from field for the Cougars.

Caldwell had a nine point lead at the half (35-26) and started the second half on a 16-6 run to increase its lead to 19 points after Ross scored a layup to make the score 51-32 with 13:41 on the clock.

For the half, Caldwell shot 61.5-percent from the field as the Cougars led by as many as 25 points with less than eight minutes to play in regulation.

The Caldwell defense limited the Holy Family offense to 36.1-percent shooting in the second half on its way to the victory. The Tigers did hold the advantage in shooting from the free throw line and from beyond the arc. Holy Family drained seven three-pointers compared to three by Caldwell and finished 11-of-13 from the free throw line, while the Cougars were 18-of-24.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 1 as the Tigers travel to face cross-town rival Philadelphia University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
