Murfreesboro, N.C. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team used a second half rally to come back and defeat Chowan University, 74-67, at the Helms Center in Murfreesboro, N.C. Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family improves to 2-3 overall with the victory, while Chowan falls to 1-3.
Freshman
Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and junior Tim Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) combined for 26-second half points to lead Holy Family. Munoz finished with a game-high 23 points after shooting from 6-of-12 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight boards. Smith tallied 17 points to go along with a team-best nine assists and had five rebounds.
Freshman Rashaad Sneed (Durham, N.C./Hillside Heat Academy) (Durham, N.C./Hillside Heat Academy) finished with 18 points after shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Sneed also collected two rebounds and three steals. Fellow classmate Levente Csorvasi (Kecskemet, Hungary /Afeosz) (Kecskemet, Hungary/Afeosz) contributed nine points to go along with nine rebounds.
For Chowan, junior Mark Brown finished with a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Brown shot 6-of-15 from the field and dished out five assists. Freshman Jordan Dupree had nine points after shooting 4-of-6 from the field.
Holy Family trailed as much as 13 points late in the first half after Chowan went on a 15-0 run to lead 29-16 at the 7:14 mark. However, the Tigers began chipping away at the Hawks lead and were able to cut the deficit to 40-32 by halftime.
In the second half, Holy Family came out firing by starting the half with a 16-3 run to take its first lead since the 12-minute mark of the first half. The Tigers led 48-43 after their run with 12:39 remaining in regulation and never looked back.
Holy Family increased its lead to as much as nine points after Csorvasi drained a three-point basket with 7:49 left to play in regulation as the Tigers led 60-51. The Tigers limited the Hawks to 30.4-percent shooting in the second half to secure the 74-67 victory. Holy Family shot 52-percent from the field in the second half including 57.1-percent from three.
Holy Family is back in action at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1 as the Tigers open conference play against Wilmington University at home.
