PHILADELPHIA -
Jalen David's (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) leadoff home run in the top of the 11th gave the HFU Baseball Team a 9-8 triumph at Jefferson on Sunday.
Facing a full count with the game tied at 8-8, the sophomore sent the payoff pitch down the left field line to cap a perfect 6-of-6 performance that featured three RBI and two runs. The six hits are tied for the most in a Division II contest over the last six seasons.
Grant Carlton (Ooltewah, Tenn./Boyd Buchanan) then worked around a two-out single in the bottom-half to earn his second save of the season.
That sealed the win for
Mitchell Bayles (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen (CCBC Essex)), who is now a perfect 3-0 after throwing two perfect frames. He came on with a runner on and no outs in a tied ninth and proceeded to induce an inning-ending double play.
The Tigers then loaded the bases in the 10th to no avail.
The Rams had tied the game at 8-8 with a leadoff home run in the ninth.
Holy Family led by as many as 6-1 through five and a half, only for Jefferson to go ahead 6-7 with a three-run eighth.
Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) and
Andres Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) led off the ninth with back-to-back singles though, and following a
Perry Chetney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville (Millersville University)) hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, David came through with a go-ahead two-run single.
The Tigers left two in scoring position through, before the tying home run in the bottom-half.
Lombardo and Rivera both finished with three hits, with Rivera going 4-for-5 with a home run, double, four runs, two RBI and a base on balls.
Lombardo scored twice, while
Griffin Richardson (Warminster, Pa./Greenville (Bucks County CC)) had two hits and two RBI.
