ASTON, Pa. –
Peter Hrousis' (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton CC)) walk-off single gave the HFU Baseball Team a 5-4 game two triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday afternoon at Maplezone Sports Institute.
Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)) led off the seventh with a walk and following a
Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) sacrifice bunt, Hrousis came through with his second RBI single of the nightcap.
That capped a two-hit and two-RBI performance for Hrousis, who was also hit by a pitch.
Lombardo also went 2-for-3, while
Brayden King (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek (Chattanooga State CC)) and
Torin McKenzie (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham (Mercer County CC)) were both 1-for-2 with two base on balls.
Ryan McLaughlin (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem (Manhattan University)) earned his first win as a Tiger after tossing a complete game, in which he surrendered six hits with five strikeouts against one walk.
Holy Family led 4-0 after two innings of play as three consecutive walks to open the first led to three runs, capped by Hrousis' first RBI single.
King then followed a
Frank Provenzano (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College) leadoff walk and stolen base with an RBI single to make it 4-0 in the second.
St. Thomas Aquinas answered with three in the third though, and after the Tigers stranded runners in scoring position for a sixth consecutive inning, the Spartans equalized in the seventh.
Game One
Trailing 0-3 in the fourth, HFU pulled within one as a leadoff single from
Andres Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) and an error led to RBIs from Lombardo and
Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton CC)).
King and
Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) then led off the fifth with a walk and a single, but the Tigers could not push across the tying run before STAC added to its lead in the sixth.
Stefano Gonzales (Torrance, Calif./Mater Dei (Los Angeles PIerce College)) pitched 3.2 innings of relief, in which he surrendered just one run.
King walked twice, while David reached twice on a hit and a base on balls.
