Baseball Opens CACC Play with Split at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The HFU Baseball Team started quickly in both games as it split with Dominican, 8-11 and 9-7, in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Wednesday.

Game Two - 9-7 Win
Holy Family scored in each of its first five at-bats as it led throughout, beginning with Andres Rivera's (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) first inning home run.

The highlighted a 2-for-3 performance that featured three runs, three RBI, a double and a base on balls.

Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) recorded his second collegiate four-hit game, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, a double, an RBI and a stolen base.

Perry Chetney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville (Millersville University)) also reached base four times, as he went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run.

Dominican cut a five-run deficit to 7-9 with a seventh inning homer, but Jorden Sesar (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville (Manhattan University)) would strikeout out the final two to earn his first save as a Tiger.

Maximus Garcia (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Norwalk) threw a perfect sixth, while Zach Lane (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (McCook CC)) was credited with the win.

Game One: 8-11 Loss
HFU led 7-0 through two but could not hold on. The Tigers plated four in the first, on three straight singles from Chetney, Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) and Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton CC)), before singles by Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)) and then Chetney again capped a three-run second.

Dominican began their comeback with a two-run home run in the third, before taking advantage of an error to tally two more in the fourth.

The Tigers stranded two in scoring position in the fifth, and the Chargers would take that momentum into the dugout to produce a four-run bottom-half.

Chetney's one-out double led to Holy Family equalizing on Hrousis' RBI single in the seventh, but DU completed its comeback a three-run eighth.

Chetney led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance that featured two runs, two RBI and a double, while Lombardo and Hrousis both had multiple hits and RBIs.
