Dominant Third Quarter Extends Women’s Basketball’s Win Streak to Double-Digits

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University Women's Basketball Team outscored Chestnut Hill 22-11 in the third quarter of a 72-54 victory over the Griffins on Tuesday evening inside of the Campus Center. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with season-highs of 24 points and three steals, as well as 14 rebounds, for her fourth double-double in five games and her 12th of the season
  • Senior Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) had more than triple the amount of assists as any other player as she reached double-digits for the first time in her career
  • Freshman Ella Brown (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) posted the first 20-point performance of her career as she made 8-of-10 field goals
  • Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) was also in double-figures with 10 points
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) blocked a career and game-high three shots

  • Holy Family tied a new season-best with seven blocks, while also controlling the scoring in the paint, 40-30, 
 
How it Happened
  • Nine straight points quickly established a 12-3 advantage on a Meredith layup just 3:54 into the action, but CHC would respond with 10 in a row
  • Hinkle ended the first quarter with two free throws in the final second, before HFU began the second with the first eight points as a Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) free throw put the Tigers ahead 24-15 with 7:39 remaining in the half
  • Holy Family led by 10 twice, including at 29-19 following a Palangio free throw with 2:03 left, but the Griffins would close the half with six of the final seven points for a 25-30 scoreline entering the locker room
  • Chestnut Hill opened the second half scoring, only to have Hinkle pour in the next seven points as he tallied 11 in a 16-5 surge that put HFU in control 
  • It ended with Dougherty sinking a fifth consecutive Tigers free throw for a 46-32 cushion with 2:17 to go in the third
