Late Run Lifts Georgian Court Past Men’s Basketball

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Georgian Court used a late 2-10 run to pull away from the HFU Men's Basketball Team in a 62-68 final on Wednesday night.

Individual Highlights
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) led the Tigers with 15 points and a game-high three steals
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) was also in double-figures with 10 points
  • Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) had nine points and a team-high six rebounds, while Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) led HFU with three assists

Inside the Box Score
  • Both teams shot an identical 39.6 percent, but the Lions made more than double the amount of free throws, 9-20

How it Happened
  • Holy Family led by seven twice in the first half, including at 23-16 on two Coursey foul shots with 9:03 on the clock
  • Georgian Court got back into it with four straight free throws, and the two teams would trade points over the final four minutes until a Jett triple knotted it up 37 entering the locker room
  • A Howell-South 3-pointer started the second half and after five consecutive Coursey points, an RJ Delahaye (Newburgh, N.Y./The Storm King School (Franklin Pierce University)) foul shot completed a 13-3 stretch for yet another seven-point cushion, 47-40, with 14:23 to go
  • GCU would respond with 10 in a row though, and the game would remain within a single possession until the Lions used five in a row to go up 55-59 with 4:29 left
  • Howell-South answered with a layup, but Georgian Court capped its 2-10 run with five in a row again for a 57-64 edge with just 2:43 showing
  • Delahaye scored on the next trip down the court, and HFU had three opportunities to make it a single-possession game, before the Lions sealed the victory by making all four of its free throw attempts in the final minute
