Three HFU student-athletes have earned weekly awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the league offices announced on Monday.
Volleyball picked up a pair of honors, as
Mia Wise (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) received her first CACC Setter of the Week nod - two weeks after being named CACC Rookie of the Week – and
Mackenzie Layton (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) was selected as the CACC Rookie of the Week for the first time.
Additionally, men's soccer's
Hugo Gutierrez (Valladolid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Lourdes) earned his first career CACC Player of the Week award.
Mia Wise (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) – CACC Setter of the Week
Wise averaged 10.90 assists and 1.85 digs per set, to go along with nine aces and three blocks, in a 3-2 week.
The freshman began the week by recording more than double the amount of assists as any other player, 47, in HFU's CACC-opening win over Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday.
She then led both matches of a 2-0 Friday in assists, totaling 85 over eight sets, while adding a match-best three aces and a team-high 14 digs in a victory over 2024 NCAA Tournament Daemen.
Wise closed out the week setting a new season-best with 58 assists versus Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
Mackenzie Layton (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) – CACC Rookie of the Week
Layton averaged 3.35 kills per set on .315 hitting and added 13 digs, six aces and four blocks.
The freshman began her week contributing 10 kills, three blocks and two digs in Holy Family's win over the Lightning on Wednesday.
She then topped the Tigers with 29 kills on Friday, highlighted by recording match-best of 17 kills on .406 hitting and a season-high five aces in a victory over Roberts Wesleyan.
Layton closed out her week leading all players with a season-best 19 kills on .395 hitting against the Ravens on Saturday.
Hugo Gutierrez (Valladolid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Lourdes) - CACC Player of the Week
Gutierrez scored twice in the span of 26 seconds of the 72nd minute of HFU's CACC-opening draw at nationally-ranked Wilmington on Wednesday.
The two goals were the first two of his Holy Family career.
