NEW CASTLE, Del. – The HFU women's soccer team took two leads, and almost a third in the final minute, in a 2-2 draw at No. 20 Wilmington in the two teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Tuesday evening.
Gigi Conlan (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Preparatory School) put the Tigers ahead just 29 seconds into the action, as she intercepted a pass, dribbled to her right and fired into the left side of the net from the outside of the box for her second goal in the matches.
Wilmington would equalize just after the half hour mark, but HFU went back on top in the 39th when
Gwen Dozier (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) pounced to tap in
Samantha Pastino's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) free kick that had gotten past the Wildcats' goalkeeper.
It was notably the first career goal and assist for Dozier and Pastino.
Holy Family looked to be heading into the half with a lead, but Wilmington had an answer once again as it tied it at 2-2 just 2:31 prior to the break.
Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made the final of her five saves in 59th minute and it was the Tigers who threatened late, as
Kenna Rozanski (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) shot on net just over five minutes later before Dozier was denied a potential game-winner.
