PHILADELPHIA – The HFU women's soccer team appeared to be on its way to a shutout win over Goldey-Baecom before the Lightning struck with just 37 seconds remaining in a 1-1 final at Tiger Field on Tuesday night.
Bridget Dickson (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) earned a penalty and then converted it, on her first collegiate attempt from the spot, to break the deadlock with 10:59 to go.
Gigi Conlan (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Preparatory School),
Kenna Rozanski (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) and
Allison Devine (Douglassville, Pa./Berks Catholic) then all had shots to make it 2-0 over the next seven minutes, while GBC did not threaten goal, before the Lightning broke through with the equalizer.
That capped a night in which both teams had 12 attempts, with Holy Family recording one more, 8-7, on frame.
Jania Preuhs mad five saves, three of which came in a span of 14:10 between the 62nd and 76th minutes to keep the game tied. One was immediately followed by a goal line clearance by
Karli Farrell (Philadelpiha, Pa./Pre-Physical Therapy).
HFU started strong, with Conlan firing on net twice in the opening 10:19, before
Gianna Georgette (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara Area) had the Tigers best chance in the first half when she was denied in the 24th minute.
Holy Family started the second strong as well, with attempts on frame by
Kayla Balisalisa (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Devine in the first 13:49 out of the break.
