NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The HFU volleyball team picked up two victories, defeating both Queens (25-20, 31-29, 20-25, 25-23) and host Southern Connecticut State (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18) in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon.
Individual Highlights
- Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) led both matches in kills, totaling 36 on the day, highlighted by posting a career-best 21 on .386 hitting in the win over Queens
- She also topped the Tigers in aces in both matches, totaling seven, including leading all players with four in the victory over SCSU
- Mia Wise (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) led both matches in assists, totaling 84, highlighted by recording a season-best 48 in the nightcap
- She added 13-plus digs in both matches to register her first two collegiate double-doubles
- Gianna DiPilato (Verbank, N.Y./Millbrook) paced HFU with 14 digs in the opener, before Cadence Palmer (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) led the Tigers with 17 in the win over the Owls
- Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) had a team-high four blocks in the victory in the nightcap
- Mackenzie Layton (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) joined Kinzer in reaching double-digit kills in both matches, finishing with 26, including a season-best 16 in the victory over SCSU

How it Happened
- After winning its first set of the day, HFU staved off five Queens set points in the second to go ahead 2-0 when kills by Kinzer and Layton sandwiched a Leah Logan (Bloomfield, N.J./Abundant Life Academy) block
- The Tigers then overcame a late 18-19 deficit in the fourth, ending the match on a 7-4 surge that featured two kills from Kinzer
- Against SCSU, HFU again rallied from an 18-19 deficit, this time to avoid going down 0-2, with a 7-4 run that included two points from Logan
- The Tigers would cap their 2-0 day with their two most dominating sets, 25-16 and 25-18
