BENSALEM, Pa. – Having not defeated Wilmington since 2018, the HFU softball team did one better, sweeping the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion Wildcats, 4-2 and 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Bensalem High School.
Lily Hoban's (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) walked off game one with an eighth inning home run, before
Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) tossed a complete game shutout in the nightcap.
Individual Highlights
- Hall surrendered just five hits, including retiring the final eight she faced as she allowed just two runners to reach scoring position
- Game one starter Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) also did not give up an earned run in a complete game effort as she improved to 7-4
- Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) reached base multiple times in both games, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI, two walks and a run
How it Happened
Game One
- Hobel's leadoff double led to quick 1-0 lead in the first, following a Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) sacrifice bunt and Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) single
- Kylee Jones' (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) leadoff triple then led to a 2-0 scoreline in the third, as Hobel drove her in on a single
- Both teams stranded runners in scoring position in the fourth, but Wilmington finally got on the board with two unearned runs in the fifth
- The Wildcats advanced runners into scoring position in both the sixth and seventh, before catcher Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) threw out a baserunner at second in the eighth
- A one-out error set the stage for Hoban's first homer of the season.
Game Two
- Holy Family again jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first, as Grubb singled, Erin Stilton (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) walked and Hoban doubled
- That was all the run support Hall would need, but the Tigers would make it 2-0 in the second on back-to-back two out hits by Jones and Hobel, the latter of which was a double
