Baseball Sweeps Lincoln on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University baseball celebrated Senior Day by sweeping Lincoln, 7-5 and 5-4, on Sunday at FDR Park. 
 
The Tigers erased a 4-5 deficit with a three-run eighth in the opener, before Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) walked-off the nightcap.
 
Prior to the game, HFU honored the senior class of Martinez, Emidio Bucci (Gambrills, Md./Loyola Blakefield (York College)), Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)), Christian Culver (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Individual Highlights
  • Garcia went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, three RBI, two runs, two stolen bases and a walk in game one
    • He then started game two on the mound, surrendering two earned runs over four innings
  • Leo drove in two runs in both games as he hit a home run and a double
  • Comer was 2-for-3 with two runs and a base on balls in the nightcap
  • Williams picked up the win in game one with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, before Ford came on for a perfect ninth to earn his first save at HFU
  • Murphy then improved to 6-4 after pitching a scoreless seventh in game two
  • Sesar, who started the opener, struck out six and allowed two runs on four hits over five innings
  • Andy Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) reached base multiple times in both games, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-6 with two runs, two walks, a triple and an RBI
  • Caelan Phillips (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) provided two innings of scoreless relief in the nightcap
 
How it Happened
Game One
  • Trailing 4-5 entering the bottom of the eighth, Garcia and Rivera got the game-winning rally started with back-to-back walks and after the first out, Leo drove them both in with a double
Game Two
  • Holy Family then erased a 3-4 deficit with runs in both the sixth and seventh
  • After taking advantage of an error to tie the game, Comer and Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) led off the seventh with back-to-back singles
  • Following an intentional walk of Rivera and the first out, Martinez singled through the left side to set off a celebration

Holy Family closes out its regular season with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Bridgeport on Tuesday.
