BENSALEM, Pa. –
Rylee Hobel's (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th gave the HFU softball team a 6-5 triumph over Jefferson in game one at Bensalem High School on Wednesday.
After
Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) stranded runners on first and third with one away in the top-half, a
Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) sacrifice bunt and back-to-back walks by
Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and
Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) set the stage for Hobel's walk-off.
The Tigers built a 3-0 lead through three in the nightcap, but the Rams would take advantage of five unearned runs in the fifth en route to a 3-7 final.
Individual Highlights
- Hall pitched five innings of hitless relief in the opener, before adding 2.1 more hitless frames in game two
- She struck out 10 on the day to become the sixth pitcher in program history to surpass 200 in a career
- Game one stater Starter Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) produced a quality start, allowing three runs on three hits over six innings
- Hobel and Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) both reached three times in the opener, as Hobel's walk-off capped a three-hit performance and Letizia went 2-for-4 with a walk, run and RBI
- Hobel then added a two-RBI single in the nightcap for her 100th career hit
- Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) as 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, her second of the season, in game one
How it Happened
Game One
- Jefferson opened the scoring in the third, but a Letizia leadoff single and error set the stage for Clayborne's three-run homer in the fourth
- Tidaback faced the minimum in the fourth, fifth and sixth, retiring 11 of 12 at one point
- The Rams loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, with Hall coming on to limit the damage to two runs
- Both teams had a runner reach in the eighth to no avail, before each used the international runner to plate one apiece in both the ninth and 10th
Game Two
- Both of HFU's second inning runs were unearned, coming after singles by Hoban and Hobel, and Letizia led off the third with a double before coming home on a Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) fielder's choice
- Jefferson cut the deficit to 2-3 with a two-run fourth before the five-run fifth began with two errors
