PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University baseball team forced extra innings with a three-run ninth, only to fall to Wilmington 7-11 in 11 innings in game one of a doubleheader at FDR Park on Thursday.
The Wildcats would win the nightcap 2-14.
Individual Highlights
- Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) had multiple hits in both games, finishing the doubleheader 5-for-8 with three RBI, two runs, a double and a base on balls
- Christian Mote (Branchburg, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School (Iona University)) joined David in reaching base four times in game one, going 2-for-3 with two walks and a run
How it Happened
Game One
- Trailing 4-7 with no one on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, four straight Tigers reached to send the game to extra-innings
- Mote started the rally with a single and Andy Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) followed with a walk, before David cut the deficit to one with a double
- Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) then came through with the game-tying single
- Neither team threatened in the 10th, but Wilmington would take advantage of an error to plate three unearned runs in a four-run 11th
- HFU trailed 2-7 through six and a half, but Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)) played a part in a run in both the seventh and eighth
- He led off the seventh with a single and came around on Luke Shahin's (Ajax, Ontario/Archbishop Denis O'Connor(Augusta University)) double, before driving in David, who had led off with a walk, in the eighth
