MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) and
Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) both threw complete game shutouts as HFU softball blanked Roosevelt, 3-0, and Mercy, 2-0, on the final day of its spring break trip on Friday.
Hall's shutout was her second straight as she allowed just four hits, while striking out seven against three walks, versus Roosevelt.
Tidaback's shutout was the first of her career as the junior surrendered just two hits, with six strikeouts and one base on balls, against Mercy.
Individual Highlights
- Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) played a part in four of the five runs as she went 3-for-6 with a triple, double, two runs and two RBI
- Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) reached base twice in both games, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and a run
- Lindsey Gorka (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in the opener
How it Happened
Roosevelt
- Gorka's leadoff single and Jones' triple to begin the second inning would be all HFU would need
- Jones would then come in on a Rachel Allen (Langorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Elizabethtown)) fielder's choice
- The Tigers added unneeded insurance when the first four batters in the third, as Grubb led off with a double, Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) followed with a single and Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) walked to load the bases, before Gorka's RBI single
- Hall faced the minimum threw four as Letizia threw out two baserunners, before stranding two in both the fifth and sixth
- She then left a final runner on third in the seventh to complete her shutout
Mercy
- A Jones double, Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) walk and Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) single, all with one out, led to the game-winning run coming home on a Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) sacrifice fly in the second
- A Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) hit-by-pitch and Erin Stilton (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) single then led to a Jones single making it 2-0 in the third, following Lauren Hagy's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) sacrifice bunt
- Tidaback retired the first seven she faced and did not allow a hit until the leadoff batter in the fourth
- That was the only runner she allowed to reach scoring position, as she retired the side in four frames
