UPPER CHICHESTER, Pa. – Trailing 5-10 entering the bottom of the sixth of a seven-inning game, the HFU baseball team sent 12 to the plate in an eight-run frame that salvaged a doubleheader split with D'Youville at Maplezone Sports Institute on Thursday.
Marc Garcia (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area Senior (Keystone College)) reached twice in the inning and had the game-winning bases-clearing double with two outs in the 13-10 final.
The frame began with a
Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)) double and Garcia walk before the first out was recorded.
Stefan Leo (Golden, Colo./Golden Senior (Porterville CC)) loaded the bases with a base on balls, and
Christian Mote (Branchburg, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School (Iona University)) cut the deficit to two with a bases-clearing double of his own.
Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) and
Andy Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) then followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to tie it for a third time, and following back-to-back walks by
Luke Shahin (Ajax, Ontario/Archbishop Denis O'Connor(Augusta University)) and
Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) and the second out, Garcia came through with his game-winner.
Thomas Hershey (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area (Bucks County CC)), who came on to strand the bases loaded after getting the final three outs of the sixth, then worked a scoreless seventh to earn his first career win at Holy Family.
Individual Highlights
- Mote recorded his first career three-hit game as a Tiger
- Shahin, David and Torin McKenzie (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham (Mercer County CC)) all had two hits and a base on balls, with McKenzie doubling and driving in three runs and David scoring twice
- Leo reached three times on two walks and a single, while Hadson-Taylor had two hits, including a double, and two runs
- Zach Lane (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (McCook CC)) threw 2.2 innings of relief without allowing an earned run in game one
