Feeney’s Fourth Quarter Propels Men’s Lacrosse to 11-10 Win at Virginia State

ETTRICK, Va. – Jake Feeney (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) scored four goals in the final 13:08, including the game-winner with just 1:47 left, to propel the HFU men's lacrosse team to an 11-10 triumph at Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Tigers trailed 6-9 just over a minute into the fourth quarter after six straight goals by the Trojans, including a 0-5 third, but would regain the lead with four scores in less than three minutes.
 
Three of those were by Feeney, including two in 14 seconds, to put Holy Family ahead 10-9 with 10:19 remaining. 
 
Virginia State tied it up for a fifth time 1:46 later, and both goalkeepers made a save to keep it tied until Feeney's game-winner.
 
The Trojans hit the post seven seconds after and could not threaten again.
 
Individual Highlights
  • Feeney led all player with a season-best five goals and added an assist to finish with double the amount of points as any other player
  • Bradley Smith (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) tied a game-high with three caused turnovers and netted his first collegiate goal
  • James Demakopoulos (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) saved 15 of the 25 shots he faced to improve to 3-1 in net 
  • John Henson (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) picked up a team-high three ground balls
  • Noah Simpson (Oshawa, Ontario/Henry Street), James Bienia (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) and Nick Gargan (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) all had multiple points
  • Jackson Brown (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) notably registered his first career point with an assist
 
How it Happened
  • Trailing 1-3 late in the first quarter, Holy Family scored five in a row, including a 4-0 second period, to go ahead 6-3 at the half
