WILMINGTON, Del. – The No. 20 Holy Family University women's basketball team had a chance to send the game to overtime, but a potential tying shot at the buzzer was off the mark in a 68-71 loss at Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 53-59 with six and a half minutes remaining, an
Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) 3-pointer sparked seven unanswered and a 10-1 run that ended with a
Kaelah Carter's (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) triple putting the Tigers on top 63-60 with 3:56 to go.
The Lightning came back with the next eight points though, to go ahead 63-68 with just 46 seconds left.

Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) layup and
Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) 3-pointer cut the deficit to a single possession at the respective 37-second and nine-second marks, but GBC would make 3-of-4 free throws in the final 15 seconds before the potential tying shot missed.
Individual Highlights
- Carter led Holy Family with 16 points, a game-high four assists and two steals
- Prevost finished with 15 points on 4-of-4 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws and a team-high four rebounds
- Riepe added 14 points, including making 4-of-8 3-pointers
- Ngo contributed nine points on 3-of-4 shooting, while Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) matched Prevost with six boards

How it Happened
- Goldey-Beacom led by as many as 11, 15-26, 2:32 into the second quarter, but six different Tigers scored in a 14-6 run to end the half to cut the deficit to three entering the locker room
- Back-to-back 3-pointers by Riepe and Carter gave HFU its first lead, 44-41, since the 5:22 mark of the first period with 4:41 to play in the third
- Carter then made a foul shot to match the Tigers' largest advantage, but a 2-7 GBC surge put the Lightning back on top prior to a Prevost layup knotting things up at 51 entering the fourth
- Goldey-Beacom opened the final quarter with eight of the first 10 points prior to HFU's 10-1 run
