PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University baseball team loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Tigers could not push a run across in a 3-6 season-opening loss to Bloomsburg at Father Judge High School on Saturday afternoon.
Dalton Turner (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) singled and
Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) and
Garrison Pregulman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral (Los Angelas Pierce College)) both walked, all with two away, but the Huskies were able to get the final out.
Individual Highlights
- Pregulman reached base four times, finishing with three base on balls and a hit-by-pitch
- Turner reached three times via two walks and a single, while Andy Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) had a double and sacrifice fly
- Jalen David (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) notably went 1-for-3 with a base on balls, run and two-RBI single in his collegiate debut
- Brian Williams (Glenside, Pa./Roman Catholic (Bucks County CC)) pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit
How it Happened
- Bloomsburg opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second
- David's leadoff walk in the third led to HFU cutting the deficit in half on Rivera's sacrifice fly
- A leadoff base on balls in the fifth led to BU making regaining a two-run edge, and the Huskies took advantage of a passed ball to make it 1-4 in the sixth
- Walks by Turner and Pregulman eventually led the Tigers pulling within one yet again on David's two-RBI single with two outs in the bottom-half
- Holy Family stranded the bases loaded in the seventh though, and Bloomsburg closed out the scoring with a leadoff home run and sacrifice fly in the ninth
