PHILADELPHIA – In a game that was played within a single possession for the final 7:18, the HFU men's basketball was clipped by one point for the second time in four days in a 71-72 loss to Georgian Court on Wednesday night inside of the Campus Center.
There were six lead changes in less than three minutes down the stretch, the last of which was an
Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep) pull up that put the Tigers ahead 64-63 with 4:10 to go.
Holy Family would remain on top until the Lions closed out the scoring on a deep 3-pointer with just 11 seconds left.
The Tigers had a chance at the buzzer, but it was blocked.
Holy Family led by three on three separate occasions over the final 3:18, including when two Jett free throws made the score 70-67 with 1:37 to play.
Georgian Court got within one on a pull up 1:04 later, before the Tigers made 1-of-2 at the line prior the game-winner.
Individual Highlights
- CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) led HFU with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists
- Jett added 16 points and also had three assists
- Ryan Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter School) and Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) each finished with 13 points, with Holmes pulling down six boards
- Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) topped the Tigers with three steals

- Holy Family outshot GCU 48.0-42.0 percent, but the Lions made double the amount of 3-pointers, 5-10, and controlled the scoring in the paint, 20-32
How it Happened
- HFU did not trail in the first half as it scored the first five points on a Coursey layup and Johnson 3-pointer, and the Tigers led by as many as 13, 29-16, when Coursey both started and finished nine unanswered with another layup with 7:11 left in the period
- Holy Family was still ahead by double-figures, 39-29, when Holmes made two free throws 1:25 ahead of the break, but GCU tallied the final four points to cut the deficit to six entering the locker room
- Georgian Court then opened the second with six of the first eight points to get within one, but the Lions did not take their first lead, 47-48, until there was 12:03 remaining
- HFU used a 6-1 spurt to go back on top 54-50 on a Jett step back with 8:48 showing, and the Tigers also went ahead by four, 56-52, one minute later
