Men’s Basketball’s Potential Buzzer Beater Off Mark in One Point Loss to Wilmington on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – A potential buzzer did not fall as the HFU men's basketball team was defeated by Wilmington, 75-76, on Saturday afternoon inside of the Campus Center.

Prior to the game, the Tigers honored the Senior Class of Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck), Elijah Jakeman (Philadelphia, Pa./Abraham Lincoln), Ryan Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter School) and Tairi Ketner (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll).

Holy Family led by as many as 14 in the first half but found itself down 65-74 late, prior to a CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) three-point play with 5:07 left sparking a comeback.

Following a Wilmington free throw, a Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) layup and Johnson 3-pointer cut the deficit to 73-75 with 3:06 to go.

After the Wildcats made yet another foul shot, Coursey answered with a layup again to make it 75-76 with 1:55 on the clock.

Those would be the final points of the afternoon, as HFU could not take advantage of three WilmU turnovers down the stretch.
