Men’s Basketball Overcome by Chestnut Hill in Second Half

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU Men's Basketball Team led at the break, but a strong second half by Chestnut Hill propelled the Griffins to a 52-68 win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.

Individual Highlights
  • Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) led Holy Family with 15 points and two steals
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) were also in double-figures as both shot over 50 percent, with Jett also recording two steals
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) topped the Tigers with six rebounds

How it Happened
  • Gardler hit back-to-back 3-pointers and after a CHC basket, Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) completed a 9-2 surge with a triple of his own for a first-half-high 19-11 edge with 8:56 left in the first half
  • After Chestnut Hill poured in 10 of the next 13 points, Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) scored four in a row before the Griffins closed out the first half with a basket for a 26-23 scoreline
  • HFU was still leading, 37-36, on a Jett layup with 15:12 to go, and the game tied, 38-38, following a Howell-South free throw 1:18, but CHC would take control with 11-2 flurry to establish a multiple-possession cushion for good
