Men’s Basketball’s Second Half Push Falls Short Against St. Michael’s

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University Men's Basketball Team cut a 22-point second half deficit to single-digits, but the Tigers could not make it a two-possession game in a 54-72 loss to Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon inside of the Campus Center.

Individual Highlights
  • Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) led all players with season-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double in five games
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) dished out a game and season-best 10 assists
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) was in double-figures with 12 points
    • He was also one of four Tigers to tie a game-high with two steals, joining Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)), RJ Delahaye (Newburgh, N.Y./The Storm King School (Franklin Pierce University)) and CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling)
  • Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) tied a game-high with two blocks

How it Happened
  • Saint Michael's opened the game with 14 of the first 16 points over the first 3:41
  • The Purple Knights led by as many as 22, 39-17, before HFU tallied the final five points of the half
  • The lead reached 22 again, 22-44, 2:25 out of the locker room and was still 20, 28-48, with 14:59 to go
  • The Tigers began their push with the next nine points, five of which were by Dupouy, as a Howell-South free throw cut the deficit to 37-48 with 12:27 left
  • Holy Family then used five in a row to pull within eight, 46-54, on a Mundell layup with 7:53 showing
  • That was as close as the Tigers got though, as SMC came back with five of the next six points
