Dominant Second Quarter Completes Women’s Basketball’s 2-0 Puerto Rico Classic

CAGUAS, P.R. – The HFU Women's Basketball Team outscored UPR-Rio Piedras 30-4 in the second quarter of a 77-39 victory over the Gallitos on Monday afternoon, as the Tigers completed the Puerto Rico Classic 2-0 with wins on back-to-back days. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) led all players with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, three steals and two blocks, the first two of which are career-highs
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) had double the amount of assists as any other player with four in just 10 minutes
  • Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) neared a double-double with a game-high nine boards and eight points
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) were also in double-figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively
 
Inside the Box Score
  • HFU had nearly double the amount of shot attempts as Rio Piedras, 80-41, as it held major advantages in both the rebounding (44-24) and turnover (6-25) battles
  • The Tigers outscored the Gallitos 42-10 in the paint and 32-3 off turnovers
 
How it Happened
  • Trailing 7-11 entering the second, Meredith ended and started an 8-0 run to open the quarter
  • The Tigers would then score in the last 20 points of the period, holding the Rio Piedras scoreless over the final 6:57 as Palangio poured in seven
