PHILADELPHIA – In a matchup of top four teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standings, the HFU men's soccer team drew with Jefferson, 0-0, on Tuesday night at Tiger Field.
Hugo Gutierrez (Valladolid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Lourdes) nearly opened the scoring from a long
Sean McKenna (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) just 2:16 but was denied at the back post.
That was one of just two attempts on frame in the opening 54 minutes, with
Joey Phillips (Levittown, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) making a save in the 21st.
The two teams had had shots stopped 1:05 apart in the 55th and 56th, beginning with
Kevin Castro's (Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) bicycle kick.
Jesus Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Artica) nearly produced the game-winner in the 71st when he beat the Rams' keeper to the ball before hitting the side netting from outside the right side of the box.
He then had a left-footed curler from the inner right portion of the box brilliantly turned away in the 78th, four and half minutes after
Lucca Saad (São Paulo, Brazil/The Phelps School) had worked the keeper as well.
Phillips made his final stop in the 79th, before Gonzalez shot wide on the game's final attempt the three and a half minutes later.
Holy Family held advantages in shots (9-7), attempts on goal (4-3) and corners (5-2) on the night.
