No. 19 Women’s Basketball Pulls Away from Goldey-Beacom, 70-56, for Ninth Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA – Tied at 44 late into the third quarter, the No. 19 HFU women's basketball team closed the period strong before pulling away in the fourth en route to a 70-56 victory over Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night inside of the Campus Center.

Consecutive baskets by Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) began a 10-3 surge over the last 2:56 of the third, with Taylor Hinkle's (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) two free throws in the final seconds providing a 56-48 edge entering the fourth.

Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) then opened the final quarter with back-to-back jumpers to complete a 14-3 stretch, and HFU's defense limited the Lightning to just two points in the first 5:46 of the period to help the Tigers pull away.

Individual Highlights
  • Hinkle had double the amount of rebounds as any other players with a career-best 18 to move into 10th in program history with 623 for her career
    • She added a team-high 15 points for her 10th double-double of the season
  • Prevost and Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) both fell one board shy of double-doubles of their own, as they finished with 12 (5-of-6 field goals) and 11 points, respectively
    • Carter added team-highs of three blocks and two steals, the former of which led all players
  • Lola Ibarrondo (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) and Meredith made it five Tigers in double-figures with 10 points apiece, with Ibarrondo adding a team-high four assists
  • Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) nearly made it six with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting

Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family had more offensive rebounds than Goldey-Beacom had total boards, 26-22, as the Tigers set new season-best in both total rebounds (56) and offensive boards
    • That led to a 31-8 advantage in second chance points

How it Happened
  • Trailing 17-28 just 1:20 into the second after GBC completed a 0-10 run, Ibarrondo and Ngo immediately combined for eight unanswered that began a 17-4 flurry over the next eight and a half minutes
  • Ibarrondo scored eight of those points, including the final five as her layup put Holy Family ahead 34-32 entering the final minute
  • The Lightning did make a 3-pointer to take a 34-35 halftime advantage, but HFU came out of the break with eight of the first 10 points, capped by an Ibarrondo pullup with 6:41 on the clock, and the Tigers did not trail again
